Linguistic modeling of temporal adverbial localizer

The paper focuses on a class of adverbial expressions whose typical function in a sentence is that of temporal localization of an event (TA-localizers).
The semantic structure of TA-localizer is described. A typology of TA-localizers is suggested, which is based on different ways TA can use to locate its own interval.
A subclass named “calendar TA-localizers” is defined and described. The latter is of primary interest when the task in hand is to identify events’ absolute dates.
(In Russian).

Key words: natural language processing, factual information extraction, linguistic analysis of temporal expressions.

Semantic analysis of contextual dates

The paper suggests a notation for representing the semantics of contextual dates–– cases of indirect and elliptical reference to single calendar intervals. Contextual dates are part of a large number of so-called underspecified temporal expressions. The representation is based on a linguistic model of calendar time. The metalanguage of the linguistic model is used to represent the semantic meaning of contextual dates’ structural components that contain indexicals, taking into account the type of indexical, the type of component and its position in the date. Various types of ellipsis in contextual dates as well as the ways of reconstructing the omitted information are discussed. (In Russian).

Key words: natural language processing, interpretation of underspecified temporal expressions, semantic analysis.

Yury Serdyuk
Basic architecture, methods and algorithms of system for temporal information extraction from natural language texts

The given paper presents a basic architecture of the system which intended for temporal information extraction from natural language texts. We present the main structural parts of this architecture along with the corresponding methods and algorithms. Also we distinguish three stages in the temporal information extraction: recognizing the events and times, identifying the dependencies between them and final ordering of temporal elements. Correspondingly, logical inference, machine learning methods and linguistics banks of data are necessary in all these stages. (In Russian).

Key words: Information extraction, temporal elements, machine learning.

Up-to-date methods of automatic time expression resolution in natural language texts

The article is concerned with temporal information extraction from natural language text by means of time expression resolution. The paper studies the up-to-date achievements in the area mostly for English. Methods and techniques applied in the western automatic text processing systems are discussed, as well as the problem of using similar approaches for Russian. Challenging issues are revealed, related to anaphora, deixis and ellipsis in temporal expressions. (In Russian).

Key words: natural language processing, information retrieval, time reference, time expressions.
